Gwen’s Story & Impact

The Catalyst for a Nationwide Movement

Gwen Hicks was a beloved leader, friend, and visionary whose courage helped shape the future of the Angels mission.

In 2016, Gwen founded Amarillo Angels, the very first Angels chapter established outside of Austin. At the time, we didn’t yet know what the future of expansion would look like. Gwen simply believed deeply that children and families experiencing foster care deserved to be known, valued, and surrounded by consistent community – and she was willing to step forward and lead the way.

Her courage, vision, and belief in this mission became the catalyst for something much bigger.

Nearly a decade later, the movement Gwen helped begin has grown into a nationwide network of Angels chapters, reaching thousands of children, youth, and families across the country. Even after stepping away from her role as Executive Director, Gwen’s heart never left this mission. She continued to champion Amarillo Angels and the families in her community, bringing the same generosity, joy, and passion that made her so special.

Gwen’s legacy lives on in every chapter that followed, every volunteer who answered the call, every family who found support, and every child and youth who experienced hope because she believed this movement was possible.

We are forever grateful for Gwen – for her leadership, her friendship, and the light she brought to this work. She will always be part of the story of Amarillo Angels and the movement she helped make possible.

Gwen will be deeply missed and always remembered.
